Intermediate Hurling Championship     Whitegate 1-17 Corofin 2-9

October 6th, 2013

Corofin's hopes of Intermediate Hurling Championship success for 2013 were ended when they were defeated in their third and final group game by Whitegate, in a game played in Tulla on Sunday October 6th.

Whitegate were the dominant team for the majority of the game. By half-time they had opened up a 7 point lead , 0-10 to 0-3. Kevin Heagney and Gearóid Kelly got on the scoreboard for Corofin in the opening half. Corofin tried to reduce the deficit in the second half, but had numerous goal bound efforts kept out by the Whitegate defence.

A Whitegate goal 10 minutes from time virtually put the game beyond any doubt. Corofin did respond with 2 goals of their own in the final minutes through Gearóid Kelly and substitute Darren Malone, but  it was too little too late for Corofin, as Whitegate finished up 5 point winners on a final scoreline of 1-17 to 2-9.
