Senior Football Division 3 League Final

Kilfenora 3-6  Corofin 1-11

July 29th, 2018

Corofin's Senior Footballers lost out by the minimum of margins to near neighbours Kilfenora in the Division 3 League Final, which was played in Ennistymon on Sunday July 29th.

Both teams struggled to hit the target in the opening minutes of the game, with numerous wides being clocked up as the wind proved a telling factor. Supporters had to wait until the 12th minute for the first score of the game, when a Damian Ryan free ended up in the back of the Kilfenora net. A point from midfielder John Keane gave Corofin a 4 point advantage, but it wasn't long before Kilfenora were back on level terms with a Killian Malone goal and a point from the boot of James Keane. Corofin pushed out in front again with a pointed Damian Ryan free and a point from play from an acute angle by Gearóid Cahill. However yet again Kilfenora hit back with aplomb scoring 1-2 without reply to retake the lead. The final score of the half fell to Corofin's Damian Ryan whose second pointed free left just just 2 points between the sides when the half-time whistle blew. Half-Time score: Kilfenora 2-3 Corofin 1-4.

Kilfenora made the better start to the second half with Killian Malone completing his hat-trick of goals, as his side added three further points compared to 2 Corofin white flags from Ryan and Jamie Malone. There was now 2 goals between the sides at 3-6 to 1-6, but Kilfenora would not score for the remainder of the game as Corofin started to pile on the pressure. A long range John Keane point started the Corofin comeback, while further points from Ryan,Malone, Cahill and Eoin Davoren reduced the margin to just a single point. However, the clock was not in Corofin's favour and despite their best efforts to get an equalising score, the sounding of the full time whistle meant that Corofin were out of time to force the game into extra time. Full-Time score: Kilfenora 3-6 Corofin 1-11.
