U-21 B Football Championship, Quarter Final

Corofin 1-15  Lissycasey 1-6

July 15th, 2018

Corofin eventually overcame the challenge of Lissycasey in the Quarter Final of the 2018 U-21 B Football Championship, which was played in The Banner GAA pitch on Sunday July 15th.

Corofin were first off the mark with clinical corner forward Gearóid Cahill scoring the first of his eight points from play inside the opening minutes. A goal from the penalty spot gave Lissycasey a two point advantage on the scoreboard. However, this would prove to be Lissycasey's only score in the first half as numerous scoring chances drifted wide of the posts. Corofin would prove to be more efficient in front of goal, with Cahill scoring a further five points while full back Ross Hayes also got in on the scoring act coming up from his full back position to score a well worked point. Half-Time score: Corofin 0-7 Lissycasey 1-0.

A pointed free for Lissycasey just after half time reduced the margin to 3, but Corofin quickly responded with points from Damien O'Loughlin and Shay Malone (free). Lissycasey then hit a purple patch scoring 4 points without reply to leave just a single point between the sides. Lissycasey were also denied an almost certain goal with Corofin goalkeeper Liam Cosgrove making a fine reflex save. Despite the incessant pressure from Lissycasey, Corofin refused to panic and it was then their turn to hit 4 successive points with Cahill (2), Malone and Hayes all raising white flags. Lissycasey stopped the rot with their sixth point, but Corofin kept up the momentum and made sure of victory with a goal from substitute Declan Brennan and a brace of points from county minor Kevin Keane. Full-Time score: Corofin 1-15 Lissycasey 1-6.
