U-21 C Hurling Championship, Quarter-Final

Corofin 1-16 Ennistymon 1-11

March 1st, 2015

An exhibition of free-taking from Corofin centre-forward Declan Stack proved to be the difference, as Corofin overcame the challenge of near neighbours Ennistymon in the quarter-final of the U-21 C Hurling Championship, which was played in very heavy underfoot conditions in Crusheen, on Sunday, March 1st.

Michael Kelly got Corofin off the mark early on with a point from play, but Ennistymon soon took a firm grip on the game and opened up a four point, only to be pegged back by the unerring free-taker Stack. As the first half drew to a close, Ennistymon edged back into the lead again, and were ahead at the break by 2 points. Half-time score: Ennistymon 0-11 Corofin 0-9.

The opening stages of the second half was all one way traffic with Corofin beginning to exert their dominance on the game. Stack was continuing to find the range from placed balls, and when a long range Cian O'Dea shot ended up in the back of the Ennistymon net, the game seemed all but over. However, Ennistymon were handed a lifeline, when the Corofin defence failed to clear their lines, and Ennistymon got in for a goal. Unfortunately for Ennistymon, this goal would prove to be their only score of the second half, and Corofin who were minus a host of players due to injury and Inter-County committments, had 5 points to spare on the score board as the final whistle blew. Full-time score: Corofin 1-16 Ennistymon 1-11.
