Intermediate Hurling Championship     Parteen 3-12 Corofin 4-7

July 20th, 2014

Corofin sufferred their second defeat in the 2014 Intermediate Hurling Championship, when they lost out to Parteen by 2 points, in a game played in Newmarket on Sunday July 20th.

A Stephen Heagney pointed free got Corofin off the mark early, but three successive Parteen points put them 2 clear of Corofin. Jamie Malone chipped in with 2 points, while two goals in quick succession from Eoin Davoren and another pointed Stephen Heagney free put Corofin into a strong position, leading by 5 points, with the half-time break fast approaching. However a goal and a point for Parteen just before the break, meant that Corofin's half-time lead was down to a solitary point, Corofin 2-4, Parteen 1-6.

Parteen started the stronger in the second half, scoring a goal and a point in the early stages. However, Corofin replied with a goal and a point from substitute Declan Lee and 2 further pointed frees from the stick of Stephen Heagney. A third Parteen goal seemed to swing the game in Parteen's favour, but a third goal from Eoin Davoren late in the game left Parteen hanging on for victory. The clock beat Corofin in the end, with Parteen holding a 2 point advantage at the final whistle, final score Parteen 3-12 Corofin 4-7.
