Hard luck to the Corofin U-14 football team who were edged out by Ennistymon in the semi-final of the county Féile competition, following extra time in a thrilling encounter played in Miltown Malbay on Saturday, March 28th.

The sides were level at half-time of normal time, after scoring a point apiece in the opening 15 minutes. However, Ennistymon upped the ante in the second half and tagged on 1-2, to take control of the game. The majority of the crowd in Miltown thought the result was now a foregone conclusion, but Corofin had other ideas as their never say die attitude saw them score 1-2 in the final 3 minutes to bring the game into extra-time.

Two 5 minute periods of extra-time would now be played. Both teams failed to register a score in the opening period. It was felt that one score may well be enough to settle the contest, and this was how it turned out, as Ennistymon scored their 4th point in the second period of extra-time. Corofin had little time to respond and Ennistymon emerged victorious after a hugely exciting game to win by the minimum of margins, 1-4 to 1-3.

These sides are due to renew acquaintences again in the summer, when the U-14 A championship takes place on a home and away basis. If these championship games turn out to be half as exciting as today's contest, then a fascinating Championship lies ahead.
