Intermediate Hurling Championship     Sixmilebridge 3-12 Corofin 2-12

September 7th, 2013

Corofin lost out to Sixmilebridge in the second game of the group stages of the Intermediate Hurling Championship, following a one goal defeat to Sixmilebridge in a game played in Clarecastle on Saturday September 7th.

Two early goals for Sixmilebridge put them into a strong lead which they would hold for most of the game. Five Stephen Heagney pointed frees and a point a piece from play from Eamonn Dunne and Kevin Heagney kept Corofin in touch, and they trailed the 'Bridge' by seven points at the break, 2-8 to 0-7

Sixmilebridge had a player sent off in the opening minutes of the second half, but Corofin couldnt make the extra man advantage count. The gap of 7 points continued to separate the two teams for much of the second half, as the two teams traded points. Stephen Heagney pointed three more frees, while Kevin Heagney and Jamie Malone pointed from play. A third goal for the 'Bridge' late in the game put the contest beyond any doubt. Two last minute goals from Jamie Malone and Damien Ryan (free) reduced the gap to a solitary goal, but it was too little too late for Corofin.

Corofin remain on two points in the group following their opening game win against Ennistymon, and they now take on Whitegate in their final group game later in the month.
