Division 3 Football League Final

Corofin 0-10 St. Senans Kilkee 0-7

August 1st, 2015

Corofin Intermediate Footballers claimed some much deserved silverware when they overcame the challenge of St. Senans Kilkee in the final of the Division 3 League, which was played in damp overcast conditions in Quilty on Saturday evening, August 1st.

Despite both teams already being promoted, this proved to be a tense battle throughout, with neither side willing to concede an edge. Both sides had mixed fortunes in Championship action just 6 days previously, and were keen to get back to winning ways. In what was a low scoring first half, Kilkee held a slender one point advantage at the break, with the Half-Time score showing Kilkee 0-4 Corofin 0-3. Eamon Malone and Jamie Malone were among the scorers for Corofin in the opening half.

Kilkee were dealt a severe blow in the opening moments of the second half when they were reduced to 14 men following the dismissal of their wing forward after he received a straight red card. Corofin's numerical advantage as well as their superior fitness began to show as the second half progressed, with Corofin beginning to find their scoring range. Points from Jamie Malone, Damien Ryan and Stephen Heagney helped Corofin build up a 3 point lead as the game entered the final moments. For Corofin, it was now just a case of keep ball, which they duly did until the final whistle eventually sounded. Full-Time score: Corofin 0-10 Kilkee 0-7. Corofin ended up unbeaten throughout the entire league campaign, with just one point dropped - that against Liscannor in the very first League game back in March.

After the game, Corofin captain Jamie Malone was presented with the cup by the treasurer of Clare County Board, Bernard Keane. While silverware of any kind is always welcome, Corofin are only well aware that league is league and championship is championship. August will prove a busy month for the Intermediate panel, with Championship games approaching thick and fast in both football and hurling. Next up is the Intermediate Hurling Championship game versus Broadford next Sunday (April 9th), while the following weekend sees the 2nd Group game in the Football Championship, with Corofin taking on Liscannor.

The following was the Corofin team line-out and scorers:
