U-21 Football Quater Final

Corofin 2-10  Wolfe Tones 1-7

October 25th, 2015

Corofin have progressed to the semi-finals of the 2015 U-21 B Football Championship after eventually overcoming the challenge of a dogged Wolfe Tones side, in a Quarter Final tie played in a cold and windy Éire Óg on Sunday, October 25th.

Wolfe Tones started the brighter, and they had the majority of possession in the opening 10 minutes, but they couldn't convert this possession into scores. Corofin took full advantage, and scored the opening 4 points via Jamie Malone (3) and Eoin Davoren. Corofin now held a commanding lead and were beginning to dominate. However, a Wolfe Tones goal against the run of play, brought the Shannon men right back into the contest. They then went on to kick the next 2 points of the game, to overtake Corofin on the scoreboard. However Corofin rallied in the final minutes before the half-time break, and points from Michael Kelly and Jamie Malone meant that Wolfe Tones's lead didnt last too long. Half-Time score: Corofin 0-6 Wolfe tones 1-2.

The opening stages of the second half continued to be a close affair. Michael Kelly got his 2nd and his sides 7th point, but Wolfe Tones replied with a white flag of their own to keep in touch. Another Jamie Malone point edged his side 2 in front yet again, and when he later fed Eoin Davoren to finish to the net, the advantage on the scoreboard was now streched out to 5. Wolfe Tones refused to wilt, and 3 points without reply saw them reduce the deficit down to 2 points. Then however, came the games turning point, when a Jason McCarthy effort deceived the Wolfe Tones net minder, and the ball finished up in the back of the net. Corofin's lead was now back to 5 points instantaneously. Wolfe Tones did work their way through for a goal chance but they were foiled by Corofin keeper Aidan Collins and with that, the bubble in the Wolfe Tones challenge now seemed to have finally burst. Wolfe Tones would only manage one further solitary point during the remainder of the game, while 2 further white flags from Jamie Malone sealed victory for a Corofin side who know they will have to improve if there are to proceed further in the competition. Full-Time score: Corofin 2-10 Wolfe Tones 1-7.
